United for the Protection of Human Right (UPHR)
Listing Description
since 2002 (UNAMSIL) operating in two (2) districts of port Loko and Kambia respectively. UPHR is a Community
Based Organization (CBO) and has been working with the Port Loko District Council (PLDC),Search For Common
Grounds (SFGG) ALLAT, SilNoRF, Green Scenery UNDP, FGHR ,Government of Sierra Leone and Amplifier Change
as partners in promoting respect for and protection of human dignity in the districts of Port Loko and Kambia.
UPHR embarked on institutional capacity building through seminars, workshops, symposium outreached,
awareness raising, support to victims of SGVB/EVD Local activism, Advocacy, Lobbying, Participatory Rural
Appraisal Tools (PRA) etc to people anguishing on human rights privileges. UPHR also team up with sister
organizations Networks, Coalitions consortiums in the establishment of human rights clubs, Survivors clubs,
Victims Club etc within the districts of our operations. UPHR played a leading role with support from UNDP,FGHR
and UNMEER in the fight against the Ebola outbreak in sierra Leone.
VISION: A society where the human rights of vulnerable groups (women and children) is given equal attention as
part of the overall protection system of the rights of all categories of persons in Port Loko and Kambia Districts and
beyond.
MISSION: UPHR operates to create an atmosphere (in Port Loko District and beyond) where the enjoyment of
human rights is possible for all categories of persons with special attention to women and children.
LEGAL STATUS: the organization is registered with the Port Loko District Council and the Ministry of Social
Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Port Loko, with the Registration Number MSWGCA/ No. 118
